We have been sponsoring local athlete, Christy Cazzola, over the past year. Christy had an outstanding career running for the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh and has been competeing professionally for the women’s clothing brand Oiselle. This month, Christy is taking her professional career in a new direction – with Atlanta Track Club. Christy and her family will be moving to Atlanta, Georgia shortly and so we caught up with Christy one last time before her move to hear about how her outdoor season has been going:
Run Away Shoes: Tell us a little bit about your experiences this outdoor season. What race distances have you been focusing on?
Christy Cazzola: This Spring I decided to focus on the 800 meter run as I already had the USA standard qualifying time for nationals. I will also be racing the mile on the roads this Summer as I just ran 4:29 in Charlevoix MI. I will also be trying a few 5K road races competitively this year. I am looking forward to trying some club cross country if I make the squad for Atlanta Track Club.
RAS: Can you tell us what a typical week of training looks like for you?
CC: Typically two workouts a week and one long run with some base runs or recovery runs in between. depending on the phase of season I am in we do different types of strength training.
RAS: What events do you have coming up?
CC: I will race the liberty mile in Pittsburgh, the Sir Walter mile in Raleigh, NC on the track, then I will do a local 5k and road mile in Atlanta and come back to Duluth, MN for another road mile, with my season finishing up with the US 5k road championships and the qualifier race for club cross country.

We’ve loved having you in the area, Christy, and wish you contiued success in Atlanta!
